Effect/Function: Movie Effect
What was the last time you saw a movie in a cinema in 2D? Can you remember the overwhelming sensation of being right there, participating with your whole being, being one of the characters? Can you recall the vividness of the imagery, the feeling that all there is real? Can you remind the details that seemed so powerful, so out-of-the-dark-of-the-cinema-hall?
Have you ever asked yourself why are they still shooting a movie on “celluloid”, I mean on film? Why doesn’t the cinema industry use high definition digital cameras?
Now, take any of your best-ever photos, the one that you consider not only very evoking, but also best-done from compositional point of view. Take a look at it and see if you don’t find it –despite beautiful colors, light and so on – less powerful than a still-frame from a cinema movie? You do, don’t you! It looks colder, less vivid, less impressive.
That is because, beyond knowing the alphabet of picture taking, movie makers have at hand one single thing that digital cameras don’t: resolution. You might jump up and contradict us with the several MB of your camera resolution, movie resolution you would say.
In fact, what is resolution? Nothing else than the number of pixels per surface unit. How many are those pixels? 1.000 per square centimeter? Now think about film grain. Grains are of molecular size. How many grains per square centimeter? Well, that is the difference between film movie cameras and digital cameras. This is where the vividness comes from.
This is what Easy Photo Effects can do: give movie life to your photos. Black and white or color life. Almost 3D depth, sharp colors, acute contrast.
On the other hand, Easy Photo Effects software can give you another trick: the letterbox. On top and at the bottom of your photo you can add two black stripes that would give your pictures the appearance of a wide-screen cinema.
There are two sliders in the movie effect settings:
- Letter box thickness: Move this slider to the right for thicker 'letterboxes' displayed above and below the image.
- Grain amount: To add more grain, move the slider to the right and click on "Ok" to confirm the changes.
